From 13 to August 23, 1998 an International Summerschool of Architecture, Art and Design took place in Lindau in the former research institute of Dr. Felix Wankel – the legendary inventor of the Wankel engine.

Summer School of Architecture, Art and Design
30 students and young professionals from Germany, Austria and Switzerland were working on urban development issues of Lindau under the guidance of international architects. The ten days workshop, held in German and English, was supervised by the lecturers Peter Märkli, Switzerland and Florian Riegler, Graz, Farshid Moussavi, London and Gro Bonesmo, Netherlands. The Wankel building with its unique architecture offered an appropriate atmosphere for creativity.

Lectures and excursions
Attendent to the seminar a series of lectures were held at the Kunsthaus Bregenz in which the lecturers of the Summerschool were presenting their projects. Three excursions throughout Vorarlberg illustrated the architectural development of the region.

The workshop ended with the final presentation of the students work, followed by an event with jazz, performance, film and sculpture.
